    Spiritual but not Religious?

What's all this "spiritual but not religious" claptrap? Saying you're spiritual but not religious is like saying you love food, but hate cooking. Let's take it further. You love food but hate cooking? That means you can't be bothered to learn to cook. You can't be bothered to study food and a meal and how it all fits togethers. You can't be bothered to read cookbooks and learn how to make a recipe. You're not willing to give it a try and burn something and be embarrassed. You're not willing to burn your fingers, make a mess and have to clean it up. You're not willing to invite friends, plan a dinner party, take a risk, spend some money and cook for them.

Why is that? Because you have known some bad cooks in your day? Because you were brought up on junk food? Because you have never had a cordon bleu five course meal? Because a chef once offended you in some way? Because you tried cooking from a cook book once and you failed? Because your friends think good food is snobbish? Because how can you eat a fine meal when there are hungry children in the world? Because some people eat better than you do and they understand fine food, and it makes you look bad? All of these and many more reasons can be given.

"Spiritual but not Religious?" This just means the person is too lazy to look beyond their adolescent bias. They are too lazy to learn what it means to be truly religious. They are too smug and shallow and immature to ever regard anything greater than themselves as greater than themselves.

"Spiritual but not Religious"? They have dismissed religion before they have even seriously considered it or studied it, and even if they have had a chance to consider it, what kind of religion have they been offered to consider? The state of Christianity in the United States is so dire, I'm not surprised any kid with half a brain rejects it. The culture encourages passivity and being a spectator. No wonder they reject religion for religion requires commitment and hard work and wonder and fear and self sacrifice and guts.
So be one of Gods Warriors and fight with prayer and sacrifice ,Jesus did

    The proceeding point

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Psalms 133:1

This is a frequently quoted passage of scripture that we usually use to stress how important unity is, and rightfully so. But before we rush right to the unity, it's important to consider the first point being made here. Notice that before we get to the word "unity" we have the words "dwell together."

As important as unity is, it can't happen without community. Before God's people can glorify and honor Him by living in harmony, they have to be together in the first place. That's an obvious yet increasingly important point to understand. More and more, people seem to be forsaking the importance of being part of a local church.

Technology can be a great ally to the work of ministry. People are able to access the teaching of God's Word and even pray with a pastor online. But that technology can actually become an enemy to what God wants to do when people use it as a replacement for gathering with other believers in a local church. Obviously, there are certain situations where it's impossible to do so, but whenever and wherever possible, believers need to "dwell together."

Something's really wrong when a Christian doesn't want to be around other Christians. It reveals a breakdown in spiritual health, and it's simply not the lifestyle the Lord wants for us.

Give yourself a spiritual checkup by asking how enthusiastic you are to dwell together with other believers. Is it something you look forward to, or is it something you try to avoid? Be bold enough to ask God to correct and adjust your heart if you can't honestly say that it's "good" and "pleasant" to be in community with other Christians.

Lord, we know that we've been created for fellowship, not just with You but with other believers. Search our soul that we may honor you by being in community.

Students in Need Start School in New Shoes

Some arrive at school with wet feet from rain water that soaked through the holes in their shoes.

Others walk into class wearing shoes that are too small for their feet. These same students, counselors say, often avoid running in P.E. or at recess because their feet hurt.

Thanks to a partnership between the Sunrise Kiwanis Club, Puyallup Salvation Army, local Payless Shoe Source stores, and the Puyallup School District, 75 elementary students in need received new shoes this fa…
